Sorbothane Vibration and Shock Isolation

When designing the Adventurer computers, AR Engineering evaluated a variety of materials to help guard the unit against the shock and vibration inherent to the marine environment.

We selected Sorbothane because the material offered excellent rebound properties (approximately 1.1) and performance stability over a wide temperature range and reduced the acceleration profile from 300 g's to less than 30 g's. These characteristics are critical to our applications.

Sorbothane is a viscoelastic material widely recognized for its excellent shock and vibration isolation characteristics. A major benefit of the material is its' ability to isolate unwanted energy by lowering the natural frequency of a system. Sorbothane also exhibits high damping properties over a broad temperature and frequency range.
