Alpha Marine Computer and ServerHigh reliability, Solid State Power Supply, Mirrored Hardrives and Passive Cooling
We offer the Alpha for larger vessels. This marine computer is equipped for the networked vessel, needing multiple monitor and network connections. This unit can be easily customized to your needs.
Computer fans have an expected lifetime of between 20,000 and 50,000 hours (approx. 2-5 years). Because the Alpha does not use any fans, the system will never suffer from unreliability or damage due to fan failure. By taking advantage of the natural convection process, the amount of inflowing air is very small and this eliminates failures due to internal dust and moisture build-up. The two 160GB high speed SATA hardrives are shock mounted and RAID1 mirrored. If one were to fail, the system will display a warning and continue on the second hardrive without interruption. The lack of moving parts, along with passive cooling and SeaSafe marinization contributes to an ultra-reliable computer you can depend on.
Reduced Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) The Alpha is made from solid aluminum which is almost 5/16" thick in places! Not only does this give an extremely robust and long-lasting PC, but, combined with the EMI prevention system, it means that EMI (electromagnetic interference) is almost completely eliminated. EMI from computers is responsible for undesirable effects such as noise on audio, poor reception on nearby radios, SSB's, televisions, and interference with sensitive electronic equipment found on yachts. Aluminum Heatsink Chassis The sides of the Alpha are comprised of two large extruded aluminum heatsink plates. These plates transfer all heat from the processor, graphics card, etc., to the surrounding air through a process of natural radiation and convection. Since this requires no moving components, the Alpha is absolutely silent and has an extremely long potential working life. Heatpipe CPU Cooler The Alpha comes with an integral CPU cooler which transfers heat from the processor to the chassis using six copper heatpipes. Each 1/4" heatpipe is gold plated to eliminate oxidation, and has coolant permanently sealed inside it. Since heatpipes do not require any power or fan cooling, they are absolutely zero-maintenance. The six heatpipes can transfer up to 150 watts/sec from the CPU, which is ample cooling even for the hottest processors on the market. The gold plated CPU cooling block is made from pure copper for maximum conductivity between the processor and the heatpipes. Heatpipe Graphics Card Cooler The Alpha includes a VGA cooler which transfers heat from the GPU to the chassis using three heatpipes, in a similar way to the processor cooler. Like the processor cooler, the result is excellent cooling. The VGA heatpipes drain heat from the GPU at a rate of 75 watts/sec. Fanless Power Supply Unit The power supply in the Alpha is a unit which has been specially designed for the chassis. It employs revolutionary Multi PCB transformer and Heat Source Contact (HSC) technologies in order to provide ample power (400W) without the need for any active (fan) cooling. As you would therefore expect, it's reliable and efficient, and it operates in complete silence. The heat from the power supply components is transferred to the chassis through an aluminum panel. The power supply has a lifespan of over 50,000 hours and an impressive 85% AC/DC conversion efficiency, which is about 10-20% higher than a conventional ATX power supply. This helps reduce electricity consumption and heat. Fully Featured The Alpha come with the NVidia Personal Cinema system with dual monitor support, TV tuner, TiVO, and inputs for your cameras. Dual RJ45 network cards and LinkSys wireless G networking, for connectivity to Nobeltec Radarpc, virtual instrumentation and wireless internet. Lots of room for your peripherals and additional monitor support. An internal UPS will soon be available. Alpha
